Acer Set to Refresh Predator Nitro Series with Nvidia RTX 5050 Laptop GPUs

It seems that Acer is ready for a refresh of its Predator Nitro series. The conspicuous change: the replacement of the current RTX 4050 graphics with the new Nvidia RTX 5050 laptop GPUs.

Although Nvidia has been rather hush-hush about the RTX 5050, especially for desktops, there have already been rumors swirling about its mobile version. Thanks to Acer, we now have a clearer picture. This isn't mere speculation; Acer's fairly own documentation has laid it out for all to see.

What the Specs Page of Acer Tells Us About the RTX 5050

Acer plans to integrate this new entry-level RTX 5050, which will be the successor to the venerable RTX 4050, into their Nitro series of gaming laptops. Their GPU power specifications page lists different variants of the RTX 5050 depicted with a range of Total Graphics Power (TGP) starting from weak at 50W and reaching fairly high at 100W.

Here's how these may work out across the different Nitro models:

  • The Acer Nitro V 14 AI is expected to carry a variant with the RTX 5050 clocking 1,500 MHz with a base TGP of 50W, going up to 60W at times when needed.
  • Moving up, the Acer Nitro V 15 will likely have a stock TGP of 60W, clocking in around 1,902 MHz, and can dynamically boost to 75W.
  • And for those who want a bit more power, the architecture with the ZX 5050 with maximum clock frequency of 2550 MHz with TGP of 100W and further 115W optional should be poured to; the Acer Nitro 16 AI and Acer Nitro 18 AI.

Interestingly, it seems these RTX 5050 variants will be fitted into the same laptop bodies (chassis) designed to fit the chips of greater pedigree, sometimes even as high as the RTX 5070 Ti. This may be a great cooling opportunity for these entry-level chips.

Still, There Are Some Things We Do Now

As for when we'll actually see these RTX 5050-powered laptops on the shelf, Acer hasn't given that date yet. Nvidia has been coy about the GPU too. Early leaks have, however, hinted at the mobile RTX 5050 sporting 8 GB of VRAM and might most probably employ the newer GDDR7 memory. This differs slightly from the rumor for the desktop version, which might stick with GDDR6 to impart more favorable performance separation from the RTX 5060.

It is always exhilarating to watch the first confirmations trickle in, and with the information from Acer, we have a fair view of what to expect from the upcoming generation of budget-game laptops. Let us keep an ear close to the ground for more news.
