Activision Pulls Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile From Digital Stores - Details on Shutdown & Player Impact

Activision declared they're pulling Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile from digital store shelves.

What's Happening and Why

May 19th, today, you won't see Warzone Mobile on Android or Apple app stores. If you've already downloaded the game on your device, good news – you can keep playing. But for the rest of us, the chance to download it is gone forever.

So what about the in-game servers, then. For the moment, at least, they're still up and running. Activision hasn't said anything about shutting them down, so existing players can breathe easy on that front, at least for now, at least.

There are a couple of other tweaks, though. The in-game store is closing its virtual doors, and these tremendous cross-platform social features are being removed from the mobile first-person shooter. And, it's a pill to swallow, but Activision has announced there will be no refunds for COD Points or items bought with them.

Activision explained why they wouldn't be continuing the game, saying that while they were keen to bring the real Warzone experience onto mobile, the game just didn't receive the same response from mobile players as it did from PC and console communities. In short, it didn't meet their expectations for the mobile platform.

A Short-Lived Battle

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile did not premiere until March 21, 2024. One of its main selling points was sharing progress with the game's versions on other systems. With Warzone Mobile shutting down, Activision is urging the fans to try out Call of Duty: Mobile for their shooting action on the go.
