ASUS Catalogs Radeon RX 9070 GRE OC: First RDNA 4 Look Nears
It appears that the first look at AMD's RDNA 4 graphics architecture in the Chinese market is near. ASUS officially cataloged its upcoming ATS Radeon RX 9070 GRE OC edition graphics card, giving us a good look at this new "Golden Rabbit Edition" GPU.
AMD has a history of releasing these GRE versions, like the RX 6750 GRE and RX 7900 GRE, that are typically China-exclusive. The new RX 9070 GRE is the first to carry this designation on an RDNA 4-based card.
ASUS ATS RX 9070 GRE O12G: First Look
Caught by sharp-eyed hardware watchers and now live on ASUS's own website, the model in question is the "ATS RX 9070 GRE O12G". The card had already been seen listed on Chinese retailer JD.com, indicating a release was imminent, which is now expected on or around May 8th in China.
Will it ever see the light of day outside of China. That's uncertain. While most GRE cards do stay regional, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE did eventually make it out worldwide, so we'll just have to wait and see.
What's Under the Hood
ASUS's listing confirms the key specifications for this factory-overclocked, custom card:
- GPU Core: Cut-down NAVI 48 die.
- Stream Processors: 3072.
- Memory: 12 GB GDDR6 VRAM.
- Boost Clock: Up to 2880 MHz (in OC Mode).
- Power Draw (TBP): Rated at 220W.
- Power Connectors: Requires two 8-pin PCIe power connectors.
- Recommended PSU: ASUS recommends a 750W power supply.
This places the RX 9070 GRE below the upcoming RX 9070 XT and standard RX 9070 (which is supposed to have up to 16GB of VRAM). It seems designed to offer an affordable step up from the RX 9060 XT, especially with its increased 12GB memory buffer compared to potential 8GB variants of the 9060 XT. (and Btw There is Leak of AMD Cancel 8Gb vram and stick with 16Gb)
Performance and Price Expectations
We don't yet have benchmark numbers, but a comparison of the specifications suggests that the RX 9070 GRE will be noticeably slower than a full RX 9070. It should offer a noticeable boost over the RX 9060 XT, however, particularly in scenarios that take advantage of additional VRAM.
Chinese pricing appears to start at 4,199 RMB for reference models. This specific overclocked ASUS model is 4,499 RMB, with a slight discount available on pre-orders. Converting the price without the standard VAT, we arrive at around $450 USD. This would place it very competitively, potentially $100 or more below the expected price of the standard RX 9070.
The release of the ASUS ATS RX 9070 GRE signals the beginning of AMD's RDNA 4 rollout in a significant market with a potentially competitive mid-range option for gamers in China.
