DDR5 Overclocking Record Shattered Again: 12,806 MT/s Achieved
Just as we were assuming the DDR5 overclocking crowd might get a little break, Canadian overclocker 'saltycroissant' came out of the blue and shattered the old record completely. It didn't look like the ink had even set on bl4ckdot's excellent 12,774 MT/s record yet before saltycroissant kept driving the record in the same day.
Breaking the 12800 Barrier
You won't believe it: saltycroissant, a seasoned veteran of shattering memory speed records, managed to push DDR5 memory to an astonishing 12,806 MT/s. That's the very first official breach of the 12,800 MT/s wall on the Z890 platform – a true milestone in the extreme overclocking world.
The Winning Combination
So what were the secret ingredients for this record-breaking performance? The setup was:
- Motherboard: The ever-popular ASRock Z890 Taichi OCF (clearly a number one favorite among top overclockers)
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory modules
- Processor: An Intel Core Ultra 7 265K CPU
Needless to say, speeds like this aren't possible with stock cooling. Saltycroissant employed liquid nitrogen (LN2) to cool the components cooled enough to handle the enormous frequencies needed for something like this.
Impressive Timings and Validation
What's even more impressive perhaps is that the new record was set with the same timings as before (CL68-127-127-127-2). This suggests that there's still headroom available in these memory chips without giving up too much latency. As usual, the result has been officially validated on HWBot and checked with CPU-Z, and it's the new official benchmark to beat.
What's Next? The Road to 13000 MT/s
The Z890 platform remains the uncrowned king for taking DDR5 to its absolute limits, with the ASRock Taichi OCF motherboard being the star of the majority of these record attempts. The 12,800 MT/s barrier having been broken, the community is hotly discussing the possibilities of 13,000 MT/s being attained in the not-too-distant future. It might take a little work, and likely even better memory bins, but top memory manufacturers like Corsair, G.Skill, and V-Color aren't sitting idle. It's closer than it's ever been.
Huge congrats to saltycroissant on this phenomenal achievement. We'll be monitoring to see who's next in the never-ending pursuit of DDR5 speed.
