NVIDIA RTX 5080 SUPER Rumored with Full GB203 and 24GB VRAM

Just when you thought the graphics card scene was dying down, new rumors from the tech rumor mill, specifically from the otherwise credible Kopite7kimi, are pointing towards an even more powerful iteration of NVIDIA's next-gen RTX 5080. We're talking here about a would-be GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER, and if rumors ring true, it's packing some serious heat with it, including a full-fat GB203 chip and a whopping 24 GB of video RAM.

What Could the RTX 5080 SUPER Offer.

NVIDIA doesn't seem to be happy leaving the RTX 50 series alone. There have been whispers of a SUPER update in the works, with increased specs in general, but particularly in regards to memory. And now, Kopite7kimi is spilling some tasty information.

From this latest report, it's not just the GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER's name that's changing. It's going to use the full GB203 GPU core, as with the non-SUPER RTX 5080, so it should have the identical 10,752 cores. There is one small but important difference, however: GPU SKU is reported to be changing from GB203-400 to GB203-450, with board design being designated as PG147-SKU35.

Now things start getting even more interesting. The card is reportedly having a Total Board Power (TBP) of 400W or higher. Even at 400W, that's a whopping 40W increase from the non-SUPER RTX 5080. The reason for the power boost is that NVIDIA might be gearing up to raise the clock speeds higher, and the memory upgrades we're going to discuss are likely helping in some measure as well.

Memory: Larger and Faster.

Let's talk about VRAM. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER is said to boast a whopping 24 GB of VRAM. This memory will be operated on a 256-bit bus but will clock at a blazing 32 Gbps. That's a 2 Gbps increase over the 30 Gbps memory used on the standard RTX 5080. We're most likely looking at the new 3 GB GDDR7 memory modules here, which, if true, would have this card boasting a whopping 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth – a spec that's been rumor-rumored for years.

This equates to a circa 7% increase in memory bandwidth. Since the number of cores remains constant, we should see real-world gaming performance gains of anywhere between 6%, again similar to that which we saw with the RTX 4080 SUPER. But that extra 8GB of VRAM (from the RTX 5080's estimated 16GB) will be an extremely attractive choice for gamers and content creators waiting in the wings.

So, What's New with the SUPER. A Quick Look:

  • Same number of cores but different GB203 GPU model (450).
  • Potentially higher clock speeds.
  • A big VRAM increase: 24 GB.
  • Same 256-bit memory bus.
  • Faster GDDR7 memory: 32 Gbps, up.
  • Higher memory bandwidth: 1024 GB/s.
  • A higher power draw: 400W+.

When Can We Expect These Super Cards.

As for when a launch would take place on this rumored RTX 50 SUPER series, things are still a bit unclear. NVIDIA itself hasn't breathed a word officially, and even at major events like Computex, board partners have remained mum. But with present thinking, it's believed that we could perhaps hear something about it in the latter half of this year, with a potential launch taking place late in 2025 or maybe even at CES 2026. Only time will tell.
