Fallout 76 Gone Fission Update Launches Fishing Combat Changes Season 21 on PC Xbox PlayStation

Fallout 76's latest massive update, aptly named "Gone Fission," has landed on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. This is more than a patch; from a whole fishing system to a great revamp of combat, Season 21 loot, and tons of quality-of-life improvements, one heck of an update.

Ever wanted to chill back and throw a line into the waters of post-apocalyptic West Virginia Well, now you can Fishing is undoubtedly the most lucrative feature brought by "Gone Fission." Your fishing adventure will start at Fisherman's Rest in The Mire. Go find Captain Raymond Clark and his faithful shovel crab companion, Linda-Lee, and acquire your first fishing rod by completing the "Casting Off" questline. After that, every stretch of swimmable water has fishing potential--just look for the "Fish" prompt

But, fishing is more than just setting a line in the water. Steps you can take to elevate your fishing include:

  • Upgrading rod styles, bobbers, and reels, all of which can be unlocked through fishing challenges and daily quests. Some rare catches won't so much as look your way without a well-equipped rod

What is fishing if there are no bait You can buy, trade for, or loot different tiers of bait:

  • Common Bait: Easily purchasable, good for generic junk and common regional fish.
  • Improved Bait: Found through trading or looting, this gives you a better shot at uncommon fish.
  • Superb Bait: Earn this through Season 21 rewards for the best chance at snagging very rare water critters.

Weather on all tracks will start to matter in Appalachia Watch the forecast:

  • Clear Skies: Perfect conditions for common fish.
  • Rainy Weather: Your odds for regional fish and those elusive monthly Axolotls go up.
  • Radstorms or Nuke: Chances are during these hazardous conditions you will catch more Glowing Fish.

So you've caught a fish what next You can eat them to satisfy hunger and gain health or make them into useful Fish Bits at any cooking station. Finishing the main fishing quest unlocks the "Grilled Fish" recipe, which gives a useful 20-minute buff, "Fast Hook". Other recipes, such as Fish & Tatos and Fish Chowder, can be acquired via daily quests.

Be sure not to neglect Linda-Lee Feeding her Fish Bits could yield a random Legendary item. Also, keep an eye out for the 12 unique Axolotls that spawn monthly in different locations. If you catch them all, you'll earn the "Local Legends" trophy fish for display in your C.A.M.P.

While fishing is definitely a big pull of the update, "Gone Fission" also starts Season 21, with new gear, sweet cosmetics, and new ways to earn Gold Bullion. And by the way, if you didn't spend any of your Season Tickets from the last three seasons, they'll get converted the moment you log in

Quite a rebound has been made in the whole combat system since the last few updates, and some of the good things that came out of it have been taken. Here are some juicy highlights:

  • Weapon Adjustments: Various weapons were tweaked, including Harpoon Gun, Assault Rifle, Laser and Plasma weapons, and a number of melee weapons, which have seen an increase in their base damage. The Black Powder Rifle will now keep 50% of its damage potential over long-distance shots. A reduced AP cost for some of the guns has been set, while in the other hand, a damage penalty of 30% has been assigned to semi-auto guns fitted with automatic receivers.
  • Perk & Limb Damage Improvements: The Enforcer and One Gun Army Perks have been changed from random chance to always giving limb damage enhancements. The Tormentor perk now operates from Perception rather than Luck and is simplified. Some names of perk cards have also been changed for clarity (e.g., Rifleman is now Down Ranger).
  • Legendary Mod Enhancements: The Conductor mod will now firmly restore health and AP to your allies. Heavy cloaked +50% damage boost being given to the Nocturnal weapons while on the other hand 75% boost is given with Two Shot and Bloodied perk reaching to 130% as a maximum.

From the more serious side, you can now craft Fusion Cores at the Tinker Bench. The priority of Quick Heal has also been adjusted, while fast travel costs have been reduced by 25%. Good news for the accessibility movement with those features switched back on: Speech-to-Text and Text-to-Speech. And, as usual, there are dozens of fixes for the UI, apparel, and C.A.M.P. elements. For the full nitty-gritty, you can always check the official patch notes provided by Bethesda.

So what are you waiting for Let's get fissioning in Fallout 76
