Imagine having the raw power to run complex AI models, not in the cloud, but right there on your desk. Lenovo through its subsidiary LCFC makes this possible as their latest addition is a mini-PC they recently announced. Calling it "mini" is probably more of a "compact powerhouse" than some of the truly palm-sized PCs we've seen.
So, what's packed into this desktop AI contender? At its heart lies an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU. This isn't just any processor; it's a 16-core beast capable of handling 32 threads simultaneously. However, the magic part for doing the AI work is in its integrated functions. The APU comprises an integrated AMD Radeon RX 8060S graphics unit alongside a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that maxes out at 50 TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second). Thus, combining the capabilities of the NPU with CPU as well as the integrated GPU raises this tiny machine's total AI output to an astounding 126 TOPS.
Now to satisfy this processing hunger, Lenovo has installed it with no less than a massive 128 GB of speedy LPDDR5x memory. That's more RAM than many of the topnotch gaming rigs! For saving your stuff, you get not one but rather two M.2 2280 type SSDs both having a 2 TB capacity each and linked via a fast PCIe 4.0 interface. That's 4TB of storage-fastness built with bolts for AI models and data.
Not the smallest mini-PC about, measuring around 9.7 x 7.4 x 3.8 inches, but certainly it fits where typical desktops would not. Good port selection combined with various USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and USB 2.0 ports-perfect for everything from high-speed drives to your keyboard and mouse. On top of that, it seems to have a COM port, hinting toward potential uses in industrial or special setting uses. As for display, both HDMI and DisplayPort outputs will be there.
Networking is covered with both Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, ensuring you can connect however you prefer.
This AI mini-PC has been launched in China not very long ago at a price of ¥ 13,989, which is roughly equal to $1,930 USD. There is however no exact date as to when it gets to other places outside China or what the pricing will be internationally, but Lenovo is keeping quiet on this. But certainly, a device to look out for by anyone serious about local AI development and deployment.
