MSI has officially launched the MPG 242R X60N, a gaming monitor with only one thing in mind going ludicrous fast. I speak of a 600Hz refresh rate-those elite class of displays that are crafted for the most competitive among the gamers.

Now, 600 frames per second is not something your gaming rig can easily achieve. But if you're already using a high-end rig and play eSports titles where every millisecond counts, this monitor is especially for you. This is MSI's baptism into the 600Hz category, and they want to make an impression.

The Rapid TN panel is the secret ingredient here. Most high-refresh monitors rely on IPS panels; TN panels have always been kings when it comes to pure speed. This Rapid TN changes everything. It is not only about that topmost refresh rate but also goodness in response rate.

MSI claims an unbelievable 0.1ms GtG (gray-to-gray) response time. In perspective, that is much faster than would ever be achieved by an IPS panel. For professional eSports players, that means the difference between first seeing an opponent and reacting to him.

Screen Size & Resolution A 2.41-inch screen with a 1080p, or Full HD, resolution. A standard choice for eSports professionals who prioritize frame rates and clarity over ultra-high pixel density.

Improved Visuals (for a TN) I doubt that most previous generations of TN panels came with great visuals; however, MSI says this monitor is able to offer better image quality than older-generation TN panels. It uses a wide color gamut (93% DCI-P3 and 119% sRGB) along with VESA DisplayHDR 400 for a much penetrative picture view.

Connectivity Expect present-day ports like HDMI 2.1 and Display Port 1.4a. There is also a Type-C port, which gives up to 98W power to charge a laptop or other devices.

Ergonomics It should be all the more practical for gamers engrossed in their pursuit for several consecutive hours. The monitor allows for full ergonomic adjustment in height, swivel, tilt, and pivot for a comfortable viewing angle.

MSI hasn't publicly declared the price just yet, but let's face it things like this cost big bucks. A fairly good idea on its price can be obtained from competitors with similar 600Hz systems, such as Acer's XV240 F6 (launched around $599). For reference, at present the only monitor that ranks slightly better than this in sheer refresh rate is the ASUS ROG Strix ACE XG248Q5G, which has a maximum of 610Hz.

So, if you are a serious competitive gamer looking for the ultimate visual smoothness and response times, anticipate the MSI MPG 242R X60N. Just be ready to cry a little for your wallet.
