Some builders using EVGA Z690 motherboards have tried to combine them with the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards, and the result was that these builders found that their systems weren't turning on at all. Given this aggravating catch, users came up with a rather odd, though supposedly effective, solution which involved cleaning some part and putting adhesive tape over it.
According to reports published on Reddit posts, one of the motherboards labeled as an EVGA Z690 Classified seems to have held a clear incompatibility with the new NVIDIA GPUs. All of this boiled down, however, to two specific SMBus pins inside the PCIe slot that render graphics cards undetectable altogether with those particular boards and produce boot errors.
There has been no official comment from the manufacturer referring to this complaint in any way, leaving the whole community to find a solution to this problem by themselves. This involves cleaning the troublesome contacts on the PCIe slot with pure alcohol and putting on a bit with dielectric (non-conductive) tape. Judging from the statements posted by users, after applying this simple solution, their computers are functioning properly, detecting the GPU, and firing up without hassle.
It is understood that industry sources suggest EVGA had opted to be silent regarding the case because of its earlier move leaving the graphics card market. Such a move allegedly led to the exit of most capable individuals who could have worked on developing possible firmware updates to fix any of such compatibility issues. As such, a software solution that might have otherwise designed was made impossible for the company.
