Kioxia Hits New Top Record with 245.76 TB LC9 Series NVMe SSD
Kioxia has grown its storage line by adding a 245.76 TB model to its LC9 Series. This sets a top mark for the biggest NVMe SSD out there in both 2.5-inch and EDSFF E3.L types, making the old top limit of 122.88 TB look small.
Made for AI and Big Data Center Jobs
The big size fits well for apps that use a lot of data. Kioxia points to AI training, big databases, and added tasks that need a lot of data, as key uses. The aim is to cut down delays that slow down high-cost GPUs when they process or take in data.
Tech Make-up and How it Works
The LC9 Series gets its speed and room from top tech and a tough controller. Here are the key stats:
- Controller: PCIe 5.0 x4 (dual-port) NVMe 2.0.
- Read Speed: Up to 12 GB/s.
- Write Speed: Up to 3 GB/s.
- Read Actions Per Second: Roughly 1.3 million.
- Write Actions Per Second: About 50,000.
- Life: Lasts at 0.3 drive writes each day for big scale jobs.
Key Tech and How Stable It Is
At its heart, this drive uses 32 of Kioxia's 2 Tbit BiCS FLASH QLC chips, stacked with CMOS-built-to-link (CBA) tech. This setup lets the firm put 8 TB in a small NAND unit, a first in the field. To keep data safe, the drive has many safe things built in:
- Chip fix.
- Error control based on sums.
- Power cut safety.
- Smart data placing to lower write use.
When You Can Get It and Sizes
Kioxia is now giving some 245.76 TB LC9 SSDs to key groups. They plan to make more and sell them in these types:
- E3.L: Up to 245.76 TB.
- 2.5-inch U.2: Up to 122.88 TB.
- E3.S: Up to 122.88 TB.
They will show this new drive at the Future of Memory and Storage meet in August 2025.
