Money Woes for 'Lords of the Fallen' 5.5 Million Gamers Aren't Enough
Even two years after its launch and 5.5 million players, the action RPG Lords of the Fallen hasn't made a profit. Marek Tymiński, the boss of the game's maker, CI Games, told us this.
The Big Money Gap
Tymiński said the game is "nearly at the break-even point." It looks like it might start making money soon. But for a long time, its earnings didn't meet its starting costs.
The main problem is that even though lots of people play the game, the money from these players hasn't been enough to cover what it cost to make the game. Some think it took about $77 million to make, which is a lot for a non-AAA game.
How This Fits in the Game World
The financial story of the game is unusual in the game world. Take Kingdom Come: Deliverance II it made its money back in just a day, and its budget was less.
Lords of the Fallen, based on a 2014 game with the same name, came out in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Critics liked it a lot, but gamers weren't all happy, giving it a score of 6.7 out of 10.
