NVIDIA Sets Out Driver Help Time for Old GPUs and Windows 10
NVIDIA has laid out its new plan for driver help, making clear what will happen with Game Ready Drivers (GRD) for its Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPU types. They also said they will keep giving driver help for every RTX GPU that works on Windows 10 for a longer time.
Driver Help for Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPUs
The help time for these old types is split into two parts:
- Game Ready Driver (GRD) Help: Will go on until October 2025. After this time, these GPUs won't get new driver updates for fresh games or apps.
- Security Update Help: Will keep up with security fixes every three months until October 2028. This makes sure the GPUs stay safe from big risks for three more years.
This plan works for both GeForce and Quadro items with these types. NVIDIA says that this help time can last up to 11 years for some GPUs, much longer than what is usual in the field.
More Windows 10 Help for All RTX GPUs
In another but linked move, NVIDIA is giving more time to its GeForce Game Ready Driver help for Windows 10. All GeForce RTX GPUs (including RTX 20, 30, 40, and 50 series) will keep getting Day 0 game changes on the Windows 10 system until October 2026.
This move looks at the big group of users who still use Windows 10, making sure they can use the latest boosts for new games and apps for a year past the system's official end date.
The GPU Sets Hit By This
This update to help hits some well-known GPU sets:
- Maxwell: This set started with cards like the GeForce GTX 750 Ti and later made up the whole GeForce 900 series.
- Pascal: This set had the well-liked GeForce 10 series, most known for the great GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
- Volta: While it wasn't out for the main GeForce line, the Volta set was in the Titan V graphics card made for pro users.
