NVIDIA Ends Driver Help for Old GPU Models
NVIDIA has said they will stop making new drivers for three older types of their video cards. This is common for the firm as they did the same for other old models like the Fermi (GTX 500) and Kepler (GTX 600) series.
Last Driver Set 580 Series
The soon-to-come 580 driver set will be the last one for the Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta types. Right now, NVIDIA uses the 570 driver set, that started with the GeForce RTX 50 series. So, these older cards will get updates only in the 580 set, and not in any newer sets (for example, the 590 set or later).
Which Cards Will Be Hit
The stop to driver help will hit these card types, which are about 8 to 11 years old:
- Maxwell Types This includes the GeForce GTX 700 and GTX 900 series.
- Pascal Types This includes the GeForce GTX 1000 series.
- Volta Types Cards made with Volta tech.
What’s Next and What to Wait For
NVIDIA hasn't said when the 580 driver set will come out, but they plan to release it by year's end. People with Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta cards should see more updates for a good few months as the 580 set will get its own updates over time.
