Sony Stops Selling Xperia 1 VII in Japan After Bad Software Reports
Sony's top phone for 2025, the Xperia 1 VII, ran into big software issues right after it came out in Japan. The issues, like the phone turning off by itself and restarting, made Sony stop selling and sending the phone in Japan for now.
What The Software Issues Are and What Sony Did
The software problems in the Japanese Xperia 1 VII are bad enough to make the phone hard to use. People have said the phone:
- Turns off without warning.
- Starts up on its own.
- Sometimes doesn't turn on at all.
Sony then put out a warning on its Japanese help page. They said that the stop on sales and sending only affects Japan, not the rest of the world.
Models Hit and What Might Be Causing It
Sony found out which models in Japan have the issue:
- SO-51F
- SOG15
- A501SO
- XQ-FS44
These models have parts and software just for Japan, which might be why they're not working right. People are looking at a regular mobile payment system, Osaifu-Keitai, but nobody has said for sure yet.
Quick Fixes and a New Software Update
For now, Sony tells users to press the power and volume up button at the same time for 20 seconds to try to fix it.
Sony also put out a new software update with the number "71.0.A.2.43" for these phones. This update should fix some problems, but it's not sure yet if it'll solve everything.
Since these problems are only in Japan, it seems like the issue is with the local software setup, not the basic parts of the phone. The global versions have different software and are not having these issues.
