Windows 11 Will Have a New Tool to Take Out Pre-set Apps
Some new test versions of Windows 11 now have a tool that lets you take off apps that come with the system. This tool showed up in the Dev channel build 26200.5670 and the Beta channel build 26120.4520.
Meet 'Remove Default Microsoft Store Packages'
The tool comes as a Group Policy item called "Remove Default Microsoft Store Packages." In the test builds, you can find it here in the Group Policy Editor:
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Application Package Deployment
Apps You Can Potentially Remove
This policy lets you get rid of apps that you can’t usually take off with the normal Windows 11 tools. From what we know now, this covers apps like:
- Calculator
- Windows Media Player
- Notepad
- Camera
Availability in the Final Version
Since this tool is only in versions for devs and beta testers now, it's not clear if it will be in the final version of Windows 11 that everyone can use.
This info comes from Technetbook, the latest Windows 11 Dev and Beta builds.
