AMD Announces FidelityFX SDK 2.0 with FSR 4 and FSR Redstone at Gamescom 2025 for Developers

The two major updates to its FidelityFX product family were declared by AMD at Gamescom 2025 with the launch of the FidelityFX SDK 2.0. The updates put FSR 4 and subsequent machine-learning-based neural rendering technologies such as FSR Redstone into the hands of developers working with the latest AMD tech.

Important Changes Made in FidelityFX SDK 2.0

Changes to the updated SDK even further lessen the load of deploying future machine learning tech. Highlights of this aspect include:

  • Next Generation Architecture for ML: The FidelityFX SDK 2.0 brings a new set of features designed around FSR 4-upscaling-plus-frame generation on FSR 3.1.5 for the next-gen AMD hardware and ML technologies.
  • Driver-Level Updates: The SDK allows any future AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver release to patch ML technology in the game. Players will receive the benefit of these ML technologies without incurring the cost of any specific game patches.
  • Automatic FSR Updates: Any game that has implemented FSR 3.1 or newer will automatically be upgraded to FSR 4 upscaling by means of future driver updates.
  • Support for Legacy Hardware: The new SDK incorporates FSR 3.1.5 to sustain older hardware, such as AMD Radeon RX7000 Series graphics cards.

FSR 4 Now Available for Developers

This SDK was served with the release of 4.0.2 FSR on GPUOpen by AMD. This version uses ML/AI for a considerable improvement in image quality over FSR 3, with improvements named as:

  • Lower ghosting on moving objects.
  • Better preservation of particle effects.
  • Improved detail and temporal stability.
  • A simple API upgrade path from FSR 3.1.
  • An Unreal Engine plugin supporting from 5.1 to 5.6.

System Requirements and Availability

Developers can start working with these tools now. Hardware requirements of these new technologies are as follows:

  • FSR 4.0.2 Upscaling: Requires a Radeon RX 9000 Series GPU or newer.
  • FSR 3.1.5 Upscaling/Frame-Gen: Requires a GPU that supports Shader Model 6.2 or newer.

The launch indicates that AMD seems to be gradually looking towards the implementation of its FSR Redstone update, which is expected to take the capabilities further in the direction of neural rendering techniques.
