Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Sells Over 1 Million Units on Day One

The big phase of launching Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been very successful on the first launch day for the Japanese publisher of games, KONAMI. As per the internal data of the company, it sold more than a million copies on the first day, including the retail and the digital downloads platforms.

It is an impressive opening for the remake in Unreal Engine 5 of the classic 2004 PlayStation 2 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Development and Ratings

The game's development was a collaboration with Virtuos, as that studio is also known for handling the remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Unfortunately, and despite their work on these major projects, late last month Virtuos announced layoffs of approximately three hundred employees.

The remake has drawn critical acclaim for its fidelity to the original. As Technetbook remarked in its review with an 8.5/10 rating:

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the faithful reinvention of the 2004 classic by Konami in Unreal Engine 5. The story remains untouched: Naked snake, loyalty, betrayal, and emotional weight with iconics Codec conversations. The graphics shine with stunningly realistic character models and almost detailed jungle environments. Some industrial spaces do look a bit decade old though. Modern controls make gameplay smooth and more open, although these also lessen the difficulty some boss fights have. Quality-of-life improvements like streamlining camouflage and healing have, however, been pretty much welcomed with their introduction. Unfortunately, however, the performance level on both PC and consoles goes down in such ways as frequent dips in framerates. It seems more like a 1:1 remaster than a bold remake; yet within this, Delta manages to retain the soul of Snake Eater, making it a must-play for newcomers and slightly bittersweet for veterans.
