AMD Updates CPU Roadmap Zen 6 Will Come Next Year Confirmed for Zen 7

The roadmap of AMDs officially updated core CPUs included the development of its Zen 6 and Zen 7 architectures used for future Ryzen and EPYC processors. This new roadmap was presented during the company's Financial Analyst Day Event in 2025.

2nm Process, AI Further Enhanced Zen 6 for 2026

The Zen 6 architecture, which is going to come into being next year, will be manufactured on TSMC's 2nm process node, with a whole lineup of standard high-performance Zen 6 cores, along with optimized Zen 6c variants for efficiency in power consumption.

According to AMD CTO Mark Papermaster, Zen 6 is designed around a higher Instructions Per Clock (IPC) efficiency, with new AI pipelines allowing much greater support for varied AI data types. These were just a few examples that fit with the new developments around the ISA changes in Zen 6 regarding incorporating new instruction sets to include much greater compute capabilities.

The Zen 6 architecture will be deployed in several product lines, including:

  • CPUs under EPYC Venice
  • CPUs under Ryzen Desktop Olympic Ridge
  • CPUs under Ryzen Mobile Medusa Point

First Look at Zen 7 Deeper AI Integration

AMD has also confirmed for the first time the architecture of the Zen 7 in its roadmap, tagged as a Future Node and Next-Generation architecture. It marks a very big step toward integration of AI deeper into the CPU cores themselves, with a new matrix engine and ability to handle broader formats of AI data.

Zen 7 would thus be debuting from 2027 after Zen 6. Although AMD didn't specify which process node or launch window for this architecture, Zen 7 would be targeting adoption in next-generation EPYC Verano processors. Further cache layouts, core counts, or power targets for the Zen 7 have yet to be shared by AMD.
