The Chinese Version of Diablo IV is here blood replaced with dust, skeletons wiped out
Blizzard Entertainment has finally released Diablo IV in China. After a two-year delay, the long-awaited game was opened. The developer had to redraw most of the graphics and completely modify the game to remove blood, skeletons, and any symbol linked to occult themes from its content to get approval for release by government regulators in China.
Blood Spewing to Dust Clouds
The most amazing finding players will tell of is the purging of blood effects. Blood is completely absent from melee combats since strikes and kills with enemies do not result in gore but explode with brown dust clouds when the mobs meet their demise.
Skeletons and skulls erased from the game
There are quite a few other important reworks in the game according to China's regulations against skeleton imagery. Here are some of the most immediate transformations that players have noticed:
- Icons that were previously skulls now show masks without a face.
- The worldwide world boss, Wandering Death, has been completely remodeled from its original skeletal ghost form into a stone golem.
Unanswered Questions about the Necromancer
These initial changes have been recorded by players, but the effects of censorship on other fundamental aspects of the game remain unclear. For instance, it is currently unknown how the skeleton-summoning Necromancer class has been changed to comply with the new regulations.
Launch and Availability in China
China is now two years after the global release of Diablo IV in 2023. The game is presently in early access for all pre-order customers, and a full, official release will be published later.
