Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Hit 10.36 Million, Company Raises Forecasts

Nintendo gives evidence for an extremely successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 through its half-year financial results for 2025 (April through September). Current sales figures of the new console are much brighter than those of its predecessor.

Dissecting the Early Successes of Nintendo Switch 2

By the end of the day on September 30, the new hybrid console had achieved significant milestones:

  • Hardware Sales: 10.36 million units sold; these sales are notably faster than those in the case of the original Switch, which took close to ten months to sell 10.36 million units.
  • Software Sales: 20.62 million units sold.
  • Attach Rate: This translates to nearly two games sold for every Switch 2 console on an average basis.

Major Launch Titles Driving Software Sales

The launch exclusive Mario Kart World sold 9.57 million copies and has been a major force behind the software sales. Donkey Kong Bananza also performed well, pushing 3.49 million units from July to September.

Increased Sales Forecast Despite Challenges

With such strong results behind it, Nintendo has raised its full-year Switch 2 sales forecast. Now it expects to sell 19 million units by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026, up from its previous, more conservative, estimate of 15 million.

The upgrade is particularly interesting amid tariff-related concerns in the U.S., the very issue that caused analysts like DFC Intelligence to cut their own forecasts.

Performance of the Original Nintendo Switch

For the same period of April-through-September, the original Nintendo Switch sold 1.89 million hardware units and 61.56 million software units. Its full-year hardware forecast dipped just slightly from 4.5 million to 4 million units.

However, the software forecast for the original console has gone up from 105 million to an estimated 125 million copies. With 154 million lifetime sales thus far, the original Nintendo Switch may not catch up with the record of 160.6 million units of the PlayStation 2 if it continues to sell at this rate.
