Ubisoft Halifax Workers Win Union Certification Vote
Ubisoft Halifax video game employees in CWA Canada were granted union recognition following a successful vote to unionize. The Nova Scotia Labour Board certified on December 18, 2025, six months after the initial application came to the Board.
Certification Details
The board decided after 74 percent of the vote cast were in favor of joining the union. The new bargaining unit consists of about sixty employees, including producers, programmers, designers, artists, researchers, and development testers.
Workers from here will join CWA Canada Local 30111. This local also includes nearly 120 game workers at Bethesda Game Studios in Montreal and employees from the Montreal Gazette newspaper.
Workers' Mission Statement
Workers characterized in their mission statement the reason for the organizing, referring to industry instability affecting workers around the globe.
"In an era marked by industry-wide uncertainty, studio closures, layoffs, and increasing instability, we want to make clear our commitment to one another and to our craft. We believe that creativity flourishes when workers feel secure, supported, and empowered. We are unionizing not in opposition to Ubisoft, but in partnership, with the goal of ensuring our studio remains a beacon of equity, excellence, and innovation."
Moving Forward and Union Response
Carmel Smyth, president of CWA Canada, welcomed the new members: "Now let's get to work negotiating a first collective agreement that recognizes the talent and dedication of these workers"
CWA Canada is a national media union with a membership of 6,000 from various industries, including the CBC, The Canadian Press, newspapers, and the video game industry.
