Nintendo Awarded $8.2 Million by Court in Wii Remote Patent Case Against Nacon

NACON (formerly known as Bigben) was forced to pay hefty dues to Nintendo for infringing its patents on the Wii Remote controller. At the crux of the conflict was Nintendo taking its UK counterpart Nacon to court for producing a clone of the Wii Remote.

Nacon's Defense

In Nacon's defense, it was said that many were illegally competing with it, which did not contribute to Nintendo's loss, but the court did not accept the defense, rather went with the option that counteracted its ever-expanding strategic approach.

Fighting in the Courts for 15 Years

Initially, the court found Nacon guilty of infringement in 2011, but Nacon's appeal against this verdict had extended the legal proceedings to 15 years in total.

Amount to be Paid and Final Result

Nacon has therefore been responsible for paying the Nintendo a total of $8.2 million. It was noted, however, that nearly half of that amount was accrued because of interest in the lengthy years they have spent litigating.

Nevertheless, Nacon plans to pursue the verdict. The company has also lodged another appeal which administration said is simply meant to rule against the latest findings and results.
