Electronics Prices Jump in Early 2026
The electronics industry is seeing big price increases because parts are costing more. In March 2026 prices for DRAM and NAND flash memory hit decade highs. An 8Gb DDR4 chip that cost about $3.20 in 2025 is now $15 a 369% jump. Consumers are now paying these higher costs.
Lenovo a big player in the PC world is telling stores that its computer prices are going up. Online prices went up earlier but now retail stores are seeing increases. Some laptops and desktops cost over 1000 yuan more than last year.
These higher costs are mostly because of AI tech. AI is making a huge demand for powerful computers. Memory and hard drive companies are making chips for AI servers instead of PCs and smartphones. Because there is not enough manufacturing to go around prices will likely stay high for at least three or four more quarters.
Smartphones might see even bigger price increases than PCs. Sources say that phones released earlier this year had manageable price changes. But new top end phones coming out after March 2026 will cost much more. Heres what to expect
- Mid range phones At least 1000 yuan more
- High end phones Maybe 2000 to 3000 yuan more
A report from Counterpoint Research says that global smartphone prices will go up almost 7% in 2026. China will see even bigger increases because of supply chain issues.
Xiaomi President Lu Weibing thinks this is not just a short term thing. AI needs a certain type of memory and that is changing things. New production might not be ready until 2027. So people will likely have to deal with high prices for a while.
Some people are buying older hardware to save money. This change means the end of cheap PCs and phones after the inventory clearance years.
