Ubisoft Assassins Creed Black Flag Remake Confirmed With Jean Guesdon Returning As Creative Director For New Projects

Ubisoft Hints at Assassins Creed Black Flag Remake

In a franchise update this past March 4 2026 Ubisoft pretty much confirmed they are working on remaking Assassins Creed IV Black Flag. This news comes as Jean Guesdon the Creative Director of the original 2013 pirate game is back at the company as Head of Content and Creative Director for big upcoming stuff.

Bringing back Jean Guesdon is a key move for the franchise in 2026. He was a big part of why the original Black Flag did so well. His return suggests they want to bring back the feel of the series best games. Ubisoft has openly said this means updating older games for current systems.

Ubisoft has not dropped an official title card for the Black Flag remake yet but their latest message used boat metaphors to back up the rumors. Here is what they said

  • Boat Talk They told fans to keep an eye out and said some rumors are gaining traction
  • Updating Old Games Ubisoft said they are putting more focus on supporting and re releasing older games calling them important for new fans
  • What Is Being Worked On They have confirmed they have several projects in different stages besides the already revealed Codename Hexe and Invictus

Going back to the Caribbean happens after Assassins Creed Shadows had a good year and is now wrapping up. As Ubisoft Montreal and other studios shift gears they are moving toward different kinds of experiences like bringing back co op and doing detailed remakes.

By bringing back people like Guesdon Ubisoft seems to be listening to what players want. Updating Black Flag along with the recent 60 FPS update for Assassins Creed Unity points to a 2026 2027 release where the gameplay is familiar but runs smoothly on modern hardware.

More info on when Black Flag will be out should come during Ubisofts summer broadcast as the team moves into full production.
