Leica develops vertical integration strategy through its partnership with Gpixel for custom sensor development. The premium photography landscape is bracing for a significant hardware transition as Leica Camera AG enters a long term development deal with Gpixel. The German icon plans to establish a business advantage through its development of exclusive silicon products which will be designed for its renowned optical systems instead of using standard sensor designs. The two companies established a partnership which combines Gpixel manufacturing abilities with Leica brand's century long commitment to high quality imaging standards.

The Wetzlar headquarters and Changchun engineers at Gpixel have established a technical partnership which provides the organization with stronger hardware control capabilities. Dr. Andreas Kaufmann who leads the Supervisory Board at Leica said that this partnership represents the conclusion of their extended partnership. He expressed pride in the fact that the two firms will soon deliver a true Leica sensor that synthesizes engineering workflows spanning from Wetzlar to Antwerp and Changchun. The team aims to create new sensor technologies which will enable them to achieve authentic color reproduction and advanced dynamic range performance found in Leica glass products.

From the Gpixel perspective this is an opportunity to validate their high performance sensor architectures against the harshest standards in the artistic community. Xinyang Wang who serves as CEO has stated that his company has maintained strong admiration for Leica products which demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship. The two companies share Gpixel technical strengths inside the Leica ecosystem to deliver photographers a completely new capability which enables advanced detail rendering together with noise floor optimization that no one else has developed for either consumer or professional use.

The project entails much more than just creating the silicon design. The two firms are engaging in a comprehensive end to end workflow that encompasses sensor validation and specialized image tuning. The Leica brand requires the respective sensor to operate through its own exclusive software stack. The companies plan to control their components production process through their internal operations because they believe this approach will create a new standard for transitioning digital data from its initial photon pixel contact to complete image file creation.

Leica and Gpixel have joined forces to establish their own manufacturing methods because the imaging industry has become dependent on major sensor suppliers. The resulting changes might create either a groundbreaking enhancement to low light capabilities or a complete shift in present color science methodologies. The future Leica devices will maintain complete system integrity which will allow the camera manufacturer to precisely manage every aspect of image processing from the beginning to the end of the picture making process.
