ASUS Chromebook CM14 Joins Product Line with Fanless MediaTek Kompanio 540 Processor and MIL STD 810H Rugged Chassis for Durable Silent Performance
ASUS has officially expanded its ChromeOS laptop portfolio with the introduction of the Chromebook CM14 model CM1406. According to the official announcement from ASUS this new device utilizes a MediaTek processor and a fanless thermal design to provide silent operation. The chassis is built to meet MIL STD 810H durability standards ensuring the laptop can withstand physical stress in mobile or educational environments.
The Chromebook CM14 features a 14 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. The ASUS product line includes two distinct panel options which allow users to choose between different display types. The premium touch enabled version provides a maximum brightness of 400 nits and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The standard non touch version has a brightness capacity of 300 nits and displays 45% of the NTSC color space. Both versions are housed in a ruggedized body which has been constructed to endure extended periods of use.
The MediaTek Kompanio 540 chipset serves as the main processing unit for the system. The device uses ARM G57 MC2 graphics to handle all visual processing requirements. Memory configurations include 4GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 6400 RAM while storage is provided by 64GB or 128GB eMMC flash memory modules. The integrated NuvoTitan crypto chip protects user data through hardware security which controls access to sensitive information.
The ASUS device allows users to choose between 42Wh, 50Wh, and 70Wh batteries which provide different run times. The compact device offers users multiple connection options through its two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C ports which support DisplayPort Alt mode. The laptop features one HDMI 1.4b port, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port, and one 3.5 millimeter universal audio jack. The ports provide users with an easy way to connect their devices to external displays and standard equipment without needing any extra adapters.
The device supports wireless communication through either Wi Fi 7 or Wi Fi 6e depending on the specific model which includes Bluetooth 5.4 for connecting to peripheral devices. The device features a full size keyboard and two 2W speakers which can deliver multimedia content. ASUS has completed the technical specifications, but they have not yet disclosed the retail price or market release date information for the CM1406.
