BMW has announced the iX5 LWB, a stretched version of its electric SUV designed for the Chinese market. The luxury vehicle features a massive 8K theater screen in the rear cabin alongside a panoramic digital system for the driver. But buyers will have to wait until next year for the official market presentation.
The long wheelbase model stretches the standard electric chassis by an extra 130 millimeters, bringing the total wheelbase to 3165 millimeters. Up front, BMW has added glowing diagonal light indicators alongside extra light strips positioned between the main headlights and the grille. A new monochrome paint job paired with custom cabin seating sets this special edition apart from the global version. These styling choices give the car a much more futuristic presence on the road.
Rear passengers get the main cabin upgrade with a giant 8K resolution theater screen that folds down from the ceiling. BMW claims this high resolution display serves as a mobile hub for gaming, remote work, and streaming media during long trips. Drivers also get an upgrade with the panoramic iDrive system, which projects critical trip information across the base of the windshield. It is designed to keep eyes on the road while delivering navigation data.
The vehicle runs a point to point driver assist system developed in partnership with Chinese technology firm Momenta. To ensure a smooth ride, the SUV relies on an adaptive 2 axle air suspension designed to maintain comfort on uneven roads. Drivers can expect up to 1000 kilometers of driving range on a full charge. While the vehicle debut is scheduled for next year, pricing details remain under wraps.
