Samsung just shattered its own financial records. The South Korean technology giant reported an unprecedented operating profit of 89.5 trillion won for the second quarter of 2026, fueled by an insatiable corporate appetite for artificial intelligence hardware. Shares of the company jumped 7% in local trading immediately following the release.
According to the official financial filing released by Samsung Electronics, consolidated revenue reached 171.5 trillion won. This represents a quarter on quarter increase of 28%. Operating profit surged by over 56% compared to the previous three month period. The massive leap represents an 1,814% increase compared to the same period last year. Investors are celebrating the results, which easily beat the consensus estimates of major market analysts.
The memory chip division did the heavy lifting this quarter. High bandwidth memory sales skyrocketed as cloud data centers scrambled to secure hardware for massive machine learning clusters. Samsung expanded its technology lead by shipping its first HBM4E samples to major clients. This next generation memory is designed to power advanced artificial intelligence chips, including the Nvidia Vera Rubin platform. Supply shortages are expected to linger into next year as data centers rush to lock down multi year supply deals.
Samsung is currently in the final stages of closing supply agreements with 10 major global data center operators. The company expects the undersupply of advanced server DRAM and enterprise solid state drives to tighten even further. To support this growth, the tech giant increased capital expenditure to expand production facilities in Pyeongtaek. Management also confirmed that they are not currently planning a US stock market listing via an ADR, keeping their focus on local equity markets.
Other business divisions faced a more complicated quarter. The mobile business took a financial hit, posting an operating loss of 0.7 trillion won. High component costs squeezed margins across the industry, even though sales of the Galaxy S26 remained steady. To recover lost ground, the company plans to introduce new folding devices and a set of smart glasses dubbed Intelligent Eyewear. On the foundry side, earnings improved on the back of 2nm chip design wins and strong orders from clients in the US.
The artificial intelligence boom also lifted Samsung Electro Mechanics, which posted record quarterly revenue of 3.46 trillion won. Operating profit for the component maker surged 107% year over year to reach 440.4 billion won. The company solidified its future revenue stream by securing long term multi layer ceramic capacitor supply agreements with 10 major global clients, including massive data center operators. These multi year deals guarantee stable shipping volumes even if the broader consumer market fluctuates.
