Edge of Eternity. The JRPG from French developers Midgar Studio. Yep, keep the butterflies. More is coming from that world, but now it has a twist. This time, Edge of Memories is the sequel announced by Midgar Studio, now a part of the family of Nacon. It is shifting the game entirely towards the action RPG field.
A New Continent, A Familiar Threat
From Edge of Eternity we met up with the continent of Heryon. Now, Edge of Memories takes us to Avaris, the opposite end of the same world. Sadly, even this place does not escape from the dreaded Corrosion, a plague that twists everything up in its way. You'll step into the boots of Eline, a wandering Soul Whisperer, dedicated to fighting back against this encroaching darkness.
A mysterious encounter awakens within Eline a potent ability. It is the power to control the Corrosion within her own body. This may be the key to savaging Avaris. Along with her will go Ysoris, her mentor, and Kanta, a prince from a lost tribe. They all mingle their different backgrounds and views with her quest to give it strength and companionship.
Real-Time Battle: Gearing up for Combat
Forget turn-based battles. Edge of Memories is diving head-first into real-time action combat. Picture fast-paced, combo-driven gameplay. You will need to bring together speed and power to beat your foes. You'll need to use the unique abilities of your companions at the right time. When things really become too difficult, Eline goes full-on Berserker, transforming so she can deal lethal damage and finishing moves.
Combat Features:
- Combo-Based System: String together light and heavy attacks for fluid and impactful combat.
- Companion Abilities: Customize your party and strategically use their skills to maximize your effectiveness in battle.
- Berserker Transformation: Unleash a rage mode for overwhelming power and brutal executions.
Expanding A World of Avaris
Vibrantly contrasting lands from bright Sarlah-Durah beaches up to the snowy peaks of the Kezal Mountains describe Avaris. You won't walk through this world on foot. Meet Nekaroo, a rideable feline companion that is not just rapid but also very flexible for helping you reach those hidden areas. The world is evolving as you progress. It will have paths added and altered. Areas you have already been through will change, promising dynamic and ever-shifting landscapes.
Midgar Studio is promising also that the story experience has no filler. Each given quest is said to have a meaningful contribution to narrative, character development, or relationships. Each path becomes focused and meaningful as well.
A Soundtrack to Remember
Music is always part of RPG. Edge of Memories is dialing it all the way up. In that regard, Cédric Menendez is composing the score. The main theme will have enchanting vocals coming from Emi Evans (of NieR: Automata fame). To cap it all, the grand finale will be composed by none other than Yasunori Mitsuda himself. He scored such classics like Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Sea of Stars. This promises to be a soundtrack.
Coming in Late 2025
Jump into Edge of Memories? Not so fast. This title will take a while because the game is set to be launched sometime in Q4 2025 for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X. As for the team behind it, it's being brought to life by Unreal Engine 5. This elevates promise into exciting evolution concerning Edge of Eternity universe and propelling much action-oriented experience for fans and newcomers alike.
