Ayaneo's Next Clamshell: What We Know So Far About the Flip 1S DS
Gamers, take note. Ayaneo is dropping hints left and right about their next Flip 1S DS, and by all appearances, they're going to flip the clamshell gaming handheld world upside down. While they've been pretty tight-lipped thus far, focusing mainly on the looks of the device, some delicious hardware specs are finally beginning to make themselves known.
Powerhouse Performance: The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
A key piece of news is this. It seems the Flip 1S DS will be packing some serious heat under the bonnet. Ayaneo has since legitimized it will feature the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. If you're unaware, this is a Strix Point APU with 12 Zen 5 CPU cores and a healthy Radeon 890M integrated GPU. This chip is a favourite among handheld makers already, so it's a good clue to what performance Ayaneo is gunning for.
Enhanced User Experience: Dual Screens and More
But it's not entirely about raw muscle. Ayaneo is also teasing an revamped user experience. Perhaps the most tantalizing bite is the possibility of a larger secondary screen. We don't yet know its size. We could be witnessing the return of the 3.92-inch AMOLED used in their Pocket DMG. That would be a surefire boost for dual-screen functionality.
Redesigned Controls
Considering the controls. Ayaneo seems to have been quietly bragging about having a redesigned layout. Have a good look at their preview images (once they've received a digital brightening, at least), and it seems the joystick caps might be ever so slightly smaller this time around. The D-pad has also been redesigned. Even the ABXY buttons seem altered, perhaps with increased travel since they appear to be recessed further into the device casing.
Availability and Price: The Waiting Game
Obviously, the million-dollar details are: when we can lay our hands on it, and how much it will cost. Ayaneo is not revealing that information yet. But one thing is for sure: the Ayaneo Flip 1S DS is shaping up to be a very promising contender in the new era of portable PC gaming.
