CMF Phone 2 Pro: Surprising Durability in Torture Test
When you hear "plastic phone," you might be apt to believe that it won't hold up to daily abuse very well. But tech blogger Zach Nelson (durability test fame) recently put the CMF Phone 2 Pro through the wringer, and the findings were quite interesting.
Withstanding the Torture Test
Then, the screen. It's topped with something called Panda Glass. How does it compare to the more well-known Gorilla Glass. Very favorably, actually. The screen didn't start to scratch until the same hardness level (level 6 on the Mohs scale) that several Gorilla Glass screens do. Good start.
Now, the frame and back cover are indeed plastic. You would expect a plastic phone to snap under stress easily. Think again. The CMF Phone 2 Pro actually survived the bend test in both directions without catastrophic failure. That's a good performance, especially with no metal reinforcements.
Taking a Look Inside
Nelson didn't take a break; he took the phone apart to see how it's built. Remember those big screws in the back. Yeah, it seems they are not just for show – they are actually part of what holds the back cover on. Inside, things look fairly straightforward, with the speaker and USB-C port on their own board at the bottom.
He found a layer of thermal paste on the main motherboard, interestingly enough. This is a good sign, showing an effort to help assist in heat management and perhaps improve performance under high loads.
The Verdict: Surprisingly Solid
Following the teardown, Nelson could reassemble the CMF Phone 2 Pro, and it turned on without issues. Generally, given its price and what it provides, the phone earned a thumbs-up for its surprising durability and relatively repair-friendly inner workings.
