Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Teasers from Hideo Kojima

The countdown to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has begun. The game is set to release in just under two months' time. To get us all hyped, the legendary Hideo Kojima sat down with the PlayStation Blog, dropping some interesting teasers on what's coming our way in this highly anticipated sequel.

Your Path, Your Playstyle

One of the major takeaways: Buckle up for even more paths to tackle the challenges that await. Kojima laid out that while the first game introduced so many to the then-new "delivery game" experience, Death Stranding 2 will be constructed upon that. That means much more freedom and choice, especially in how you tackle encounters. Wanna roll in guns blazing. You can do that. Wanna sneak up and take someone out instead. That's an option too. And, apart from that, travel will be less complicated, with automobiles and motorcycles more readily available this time.

Unraveling More of the Story

If the first game's story was your cup of tea, buckle up because we're going to get even deeper. While the first game focused on Sam and Cliff's relationship, the second is going to shed more light on Lou's life and her complex relationship with Sam. We'll also get to learn more about Sam's history, adding new layers to his story.

New Horizons: Mexico and Australia

The game world is now outside the UCA's familiar territories. Kojima had more to say regarding the choice of having parts of the game occur in Mexico and Australia.

  • Mexico: Gracing the borders of the United Cities of America, connecting these border areas was natural. But Kojima did mention that creating the "connections" was heavily considered so that none of it felt invasive.
  • Australia: After Sam's Herculean task of connecting America coast to coast, the team looked for a similar landmass of the same east-to-west extent and coastlines. Eurasia was too large, and Africa didn't quite fit into the geographical imagination. Australia boasted all the correct specifications. The fascinating "plate gate" concept was then imagined to connect North America and Australia.

A Collector's Item: The Limited Edition DualSense

And for die-hards, Sony and Kojima Productions collaborated to create a special treat: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller. This beautifully-designed controller is set to release on June 26th, the game release date.

It will cost:

  • $84.99
  • €84.99
  • £74.99
  • ¥12,480

If you can't wait to get your hands on one, pre-orders begin on May 22nd at 10 AM local time on the PlayStation Direct website in some countries (United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg).

It appears that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be an even bigger and more interactive experience, with familiar old favorites and new surprises in store for players.
