FEVM FA-EX9: AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Compact Heavyweight in China
It is now in China, and it is bound to be a pocket rocket for aficionados of all things AMD.
What's Inside Another Compact Heavyweight
FEVM must have been wild to get FA-EX9 out there; housed inside is the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395. If the name sounds awesome, well, consider it is. The chip is the king of AMD's Strix Halo lineup, with a whopping 16 Zen 5 cores. The Radeon 8060S integrated graphics, with 40 compute units, accompanies this powerful processor. What does all this mean for you. It means that this little machine will be able to run demanding modern AAA games, especially at 1080p resolution, with a lot of ease.
As previously hinted, perhaps one of the most attractive features of this laptop is its generous assortment of ports. The OCuLink port will be especially appreciated by gamers. This makes connecting an external GPU enclosure-new graphics power whenever it's needed via the Minisforum DEG1 dock (which can be found on Amazon)-all possible.
But OCuLink is only the beginning. Let's see what else is up:
- Two USB4 ports (one on the front, one on the back-for utmost convenience and speed)
- Three USB 3.2 Type-A ports
- Two USB 2.0 Type-A ports
- HDMI 2.1 port
- DisplayPort 2.1 port (here's looking at you, multi-monitor 8K setups)
- SD 4.0 card slot (very useful for content creators)
- 2.5G LAN port for fast wired Internet
- Two 3.5mm audio jacks
Wireless care is also present, with WiFi 7 and Bluetooth, with the version of Bluetooth still being up in the air.
Zaftig Zest and High-End Cooling
All this power is fully packed in surprisingly compact and stylish 2-liter aluminum alloy chassis. FEVM is talking a lot about the advanced cooling system they have inside. Twin turbofans and phase-change thermal material are alluded to, with the FA-EX9 capable of sustaining an impressive 120 watts of performance from that Ryzen AI Max+ 395, according to them. To provide some perspective, this is roughly the performance of an AMD Ryzen 9 9950HX processor coupled with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU, pretty impressive for any mini-PC, to say the least.
Other things worth mentioning
Other things worth mentioning are 128GB of fast LPDDR5X-8000 RAM, two M.2 slots for your PCIe 4.0 SSDs, and a nice feature allowing you to switch between multiple performance modes at the tap of a button.
Price and Availability
Going for CNY 13,999 in China (around $1,943) is the FEVM FA-EX9. Concerning a worldwide launch, nothing has been said officially yet; still, FEVM tends to take its products around the world and that gives some hope.
This makes the FA-EX9 the second announced product to feature the flagship "Strix Halo" AMD Ryzen AI Max+ (PRO) 395, right after Geek's EVO-X2. The age of ultra-powerful mini PCs is surely upon us.
