WRC Games Enter New Era: Nacon Takes the Helm
For those of us who live and breathe rally racing, April 2025 brought some truly unfortunate news. Hearing that EA was officially taking the EA Sports WRC series off the table put a sick feeling in our stomach. Hope for the future of licensed WRC gaming began to fade.
But hold your horses. Start dusting off those racing gloves, for it appears an untarnished ray of hope shines at the end of this muddy, gravel-strewn tunnel. The French publisher, Nacon, made a far-reaching announcement.
A New Era for WRC Games Has Come
Nacon has officially signed the sanctioning agreement with WRC Promoter to create and publish rally simulators under the eminent World Rally Championship license. This is not a short-term affair; Nacon will have exclusive rights to all competitions from 2027 to 2032.
Indeed, by the name Nacon alluded to, you've traveled the WRC ground. WRC Generations was their last WRC title to be released at the end of 2022. Looks like the company is gearing up for a big comeback and a fresh start in that series again.
What Can We Expect from Nacon's WRC
It's a very interesting question for us, rally freaks. Nacon aims for the new game series to be welcoming to the absolute newcomer to the genre while giving depth and challenge to the veteran rally driver's spirit. Quite a thin line to walk, but one we are so willing to see them attempt.
As for what we know: licenses for all official things, real championship stages, licensed vehicles, real-world teams, and drivers. Even sponsors will be landing at a party.
About when exactly we will get to hold any of these new games, and which ones, on which platforms, Nacon is not spilling any info just yet; the announcement itself is quite enough to get the excitement engines turning. It seems like the future of WRC gaming once again is in good hands.
