NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Nears Launch: PNY Model Surfaces

It appears the waiting period for NVIDIA's next mainstream Blackwell graphics card is about to end. While the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti made it to the shelves earlier, its non-Ti version, the GeForce RTX 5060, should become available later this month. We do not have the exact date yet, but a very strong indication just surfaced.

PNY RTX 5060 OC Shows Up on Best Buy for $299

A launch is likely only weeks away, and partner cards are starting to show up online. Eagle-eyed customers spotted a PNY GeForce RTX 5060 8GB OC model on Best Buy's website. The model features a plain, all-black design with two cooling fans.

The most interesting part. The price is set at $299.99, which is identical to NVIDIA's announcement in April. Of course, you can't yet actually purchase it due to the launch embargo. It's also worth remembering that initial MSRP listings for some of the other RTX 50 series cards sometimes shifted upwards when they actually launched, so we'll need to wait and see if this price holds.

What Does the RTX 5060 Bring to the Table?

Promoted as the successor to the popular RTX 4060, the new RTX 5060 boasts some significant enhancements:

  • More Cores: It boasts 3840 CUDA cores, a healthy 25% bump from the RTX 4060's 3072 cores. NVIDIA is also promising a similar boost in traditional gaming (raster) performance.
  • Faster Memory: While it keeps the same 8GB memory amount, it shifts to quicker GDDR7 memory. That increases memory bandwidth from 272 GB/s on the 4060 to around 448 GB/s on the 5060, which should translate to noticeable performance gain.

Clock Speeds Revealed

NVIDIA withheld some details like clock speeds initially. But this Best Buy listing for this PNY OC (Overclocked) model lets the cat out of the bag: it specifies a base clock of 2.28 GHz and a boost clock of up to 2.54 GHz. That's not far from its big brother, the RTX 5060 Ti. We can likely expect the reference or non-OC models to have slightly lower boost clocks.

Power Considerations

The RTX 5060 will also be a bit more hungry than its predecessor, with a Total Board Power (TBP) of 145W compared to the reduced power consumption of the RTX 4060. It's not a huge leap forward, and if the card can deliver that 25% performance increase promised, then it seems like a fair trade-off.

Keep in mind that while the $299 price tag is for the base models, we've already seen how premium versions of the RTX 50 series can stretch much more. It's not going to be a shock to see some more exorbitant RTX 5060 cards approach the vicinity of the $400 mark.
