Santa Monica Studio's Secret: A New Sci-Fi Epic from God of War Creators.
Keepers of secrets in the gaming world are slowly losing their grip, yet an occasional spicy rumor slips through. This time, the rumor surrounding Santa Monica Studio-the very studio behind God of War-is that it has been nurturing something new, something secret, for quite a while now.
The well-known insider Jeff Grubb claims that none other than Cory Barlog-the brilliant mind behind the God of War reboot-is allegedly heading this unknown new project. What kind of game are we talking about. Grubb says this one is going to be larger in scope and is set in some kind of sci-fi universe. The catch. This game has supposedly been in development for a lossy seven years now.
Seven years is quite a long time in game development, which in itself generates much curiosity about what kind of great, wonderful world and then gameplay Santa Monica Studio could be building. This would be quite literally the next big one from the famed studio.
When Will We Get a First Look.
The big question, naturally, when would we get our first look at the long-in-the-making title. While that is now confirmed, circulation suggests a reveal may be coming soon during an upcoming Sony State of Play presentation. The date of that next Sony showcase is still very much under wraps, so again, all just fun speculation for now.
It's always fun to see what a studio known for one genre or series does when they go out of their comfort zone. If it is with Barlog's stellar track record with God of War, expectations are indeed high. But then, also, long development periods can cut both ways. Projects that take many years to complete can be affected by unique circumstances; some say. But the very thought of having a brand-new sci-fi epic in the works by the ever-genius Cory Barlog gets every gamer excited.
