MOST LIKELY, SONY WOULD BE AQUITTING HIMSELF FROM MANUFACTURE OF FLAGSHIP SMARTHONES.Well, you must know how many of the phone companies do most designing of their own high-end models but let other factories handle assembly of their very low-end models. Supposedly, it seems that this is maybe somewhat further down the road for Sony.
As reported by the Japanese blog Sumahodigest, the clues are in what is not being manufactured in Sony factories. Apparently, if you go through production lists in different countries for the Sony plants, smartphones are conspicuously absent. Once upon a time, three of their facilities-too in Thailand and one in China-were busy assembling phones. Now, it is said that these same factories are working on cameras, lenses, and other equipment-related stuff. The thinking is that if Sony ain't doing it in-house, then someone else must be collecting all the contracts for smartphone manufacture.
This brings up the speculation that the recent Xperia 1 VII could be the first Sony flagship to be manufactured by an outsourcing partner. The really interesting point about this is, if it is indeed true, it does not seem to tarnish the final product's quality. No major build issues were mentioned in the reviews of the Xperia 1 VII.
The one thing that doesn't seem to have changed, however, is the price tag. If some other company did manufacture it, that seemingly did not translate into a decidedly cheaper phone for us consumers, not yet anyway.
If so, it seems a minor shift; however, a significant one when it comes to the future prospects for Sony's mobile division and what this spells for the Xperia brand we have known.
