A true classic gets painted over. Relic Entertainment has just pulled back the curtain on Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition, reviving the beloved real-time strategy game of the early 2000s with a fresh coat of paint. It's not a re-release; it's an upgrade to the max.
What's New in the Emperor's Eye
So, what's new in the Emperor's eye in this Definitive Edition. Plenty, as it turns out. The developers are concentrating on core areas to deliver the best way to play Dawn of War:
- Visual Overhaul: Prepare for a major graphical upgrade. Textures are being quadrupled in resolution, so the grim darkness of the far future has never looked better.
- Modernized Interface: The user interface is being similarly much-needed revamp, designed especially to work effortlessly with ultrawide monitors. No more horribly stretched-out UIs.
- Improved Camera: A revamped game camera with an extended draw distance guarantees a more cinematic view of the battle-scape. Imagine watching those epic battles with even better clarity.
Performance is also key, with the team delivering silky smooth play on modern hardware all the way up to 4K resolution. They've also reworked where the interface elements are laid out to get the most out of widescreen monitors today.
Content and Modding Support
Afraid of missing out on material. Fear not. The Definitive Edition will include all the expansions and add-ons that were published for the original Dawn of War, just like the present Anniversary Edition. That's a lot of Warhammer awesomeness in one game.
And for all the hard core fans and modders, Relic does have something to look forward to. They're implementing fan-created modification compatibility. It's their intention to make this new strategy experience available to everyone, from the greenest rookie to the battle-scarred veteran of the 41st Millennium.
