For IO Interactive, the task of taking on a James Bond title is a gigantic responsibility that they would accept with pride. Two decades of their game development experience are poured into making this unique Bond experience. This is a wonderful moment for the studio to put their craftsmanship to use on one of fiction's most cherished characters.
Say hello to a James Bond you have not yet seen. In 007 First Light, we will see Bond at a much earlier stage in his life - a mere 26 years old. He is not the cold, calculating, martini-sipping 007 yet; he is still a young man with acute instincts, a somewhat reckless attitude, and much to learn about the treachery of espionage. He is still figuring out how to walk the fine line between head-on confrontation, clever bluffing, and simply slipping away into the shadows.
The story begins with Bond as a NAVY air crewman. A fateful act of valor against countless odds leads him into the toughest training program offered by MI6. This journey, along with his natural intelligence and initiative, will forge him into the spy he is meant to become. This original story is being penned in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, ensuring an authentic take on but new look at Bond's formative years.
So what can players expect. The first snippets promise a globetrotting adventure, taking you from snow-capped mountains to sun-drenched coastlines. Encounters from classic characters crucial to the Bond universe M, Q, Moneypenny, etc. But there'll also be new characters coming into play Greenway, who'll act as Bond's mentor, trying (or at least attempting to) to guide him through the intricacies of MI6 operations.
The gameplay promises classic Bond but with a contemporary twist. Expect to see different intense combat sequences intermixed with high-octane driving, stealthy infiltration, and, of course, a whole lot of cutting-edge gadgetry. This entire edifice of deceit and danger will come to life on IO Interactive's Glacier engine.
For now, this is the limit of what we know about 007 First Light; however, more information regarding gameplay and story is expected later in the year. The game is expected to be released for PlayStation 5 in 2026; for those with a PS5 Pro, anticipate an enhanced experience that leverages PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), targeting smooth 60FPS in Quality Mode.
In the mood to follow Bond's earlier adventures. You can wishlist 007 First Light now.
