Funcom's eagerly awaited multiplayer survival adventure, Dune Awakening, is now live for all PC players. This is the full release after an exciting head start weekend that saw hordes of early adopters throw their hands into the air, and it's safe to say they're all having a lot of fun now.
Before that final gate swung open, Dune Awakening had been buzzing. Well over 117,000 players jumped into the game when early access began for pre-ordering an elite deluxe edition. If the user base had needed proof that this was a hot title that drew in huge numbers, this certainly qualified-the figure represents only a fraction of the actual potential sampling population.
As for the people waiting to spice up their lives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, what sunshine is that. Funcom did confirm that they're going to work on console versions, but they're going to be only available "sometime in 2026."
To commemorate the full PC launch, Funcom also has added a new gameplay trailer, cutting together some exhilarating footage to provide everyone a new look into the world of Dune Awakening.
Before the main launch, Funcom's CEO and CTO Rui Casais sent a message to the broader community. Among other things, he thanked the early players for showing much enthusiasm and urged them for more patience as the team worked day and night to clear any of the capital's hurdles.
"Believe it or not, we do read all your feedback, be it through social media, Discord, support tickets or Steam reviews. And we're working around the clock to mitigate any issues you find and improve the overall experience," assured Casais.
He also responded to queue time concerns, saying that with the official launch, there would be additional servers, and that fair distribution of players was kept in mind by the team. "Worry not, there is enough capacity for all of you," he stated.
And if this might seem to all buttress the point he was making, Casais did not hesitate to beg players to "please bear with us, if not everything is silky smooth when we open the game tomorrow. This is just the beginning. We have years' worth of plans for Dune Awakening, and I want to once again thank you all for joining us on this journey."
The game is now live, making the Season Pass available for purchase. The first add-on featured in the pass is the "Wildlife of Arrakis" DLC, which adds four statues to the game in honor of culturally important beings such as sandworm and Muad'Dib.
What's next. Three more DLCs will be released and added to the Season Pass, which are expected to come out in Q4 2025, Q1 2026, and Q2 2026. Between these paid releases, Funcom also plans to introduce a number of free content updates that promise to keep the Dune adventurers constantly entertained.
