Almost irresistibly now driving players into his lands between for a fresh, experimental journey, FromSoftware announced that its latest multiplayer venture, Elden Ring Nightreign, gained 3.5 million players within the first week. Just the day prior, an announcement was made celebrating 2 million adventurers flocking into battle on the very first day.
FromSoftware does not appear to be resting on its laurels regarding the past successes. Some tantalizing hints on the horizon will prove that what is now is but the beginning:
"Our heartfelt thanks for the love and passion shown towards us. But the Night is not yet over. Apart from the DLC which will be released later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented starting with improved battles against existing Nightlords from this month and Duo Expeditions later on. Thank you for your support."
Indeed, those improved encounters with those dreadful Nightlords are bound to hit any day now to ramp up the difficulty level. For players that dig the whole teamwork thing, Duo Expeditions would be the formal way to go. For PC players, it might turn out to be a little different, as the modding community already developed a user-created mod for two-player adventures.
A lot of numbers flying around trying to make noise for Elden Ring Nightreign, meanwhile carving this particular name for itself. The majority of the reviews welcome the game, coming from both critics and players, but almost always accusing it of being a different beast from Elden Ring. The game accounts with solid 73% positive votes from over 42,000 reviews on Steam.
Francesco De Meo found himself spellbound by Nightreign's take on the Soulslike formula all too rare, granting a solid 9 out of 10 in the process. He described the game as an experience that at first is an "acquired taste." His own experience began with a bit of skepticism while stomping through early Expeditions into Limveld. But as his expectations for a typical Soulslike faded and he began to acclimate to its new mechanics, he found increased charm towards the game.
After many hours of battling its challenges, Francesco lauded its great character customization and super-fun tension between high-speed and time-limited gameplay. He believes that Nightreign is fun and exciting enough to merit the interest of the mildly curious about FromSoftware's work or those who are initially resistant. As he put it, they might just find themselves so captivated by the Night that they'll find it hard to leave.
