Fplus Unveils Russian Handheld Gaming Console Prototype at CIPR-2025 Highlighting Development Journey Challenges and Chinese Market Similarities

CIPR-2025 saw Fplus unveil a prototype of a domestically developed handheld gaming console. And yes, it is not yet releasing this console in the market. It is just a preview of things to come, a test device for developers to have a go at.

What was showed was actually impressive and, probably even more interesting, were the different configurations in which they showed that off. There were three different models with various shapes, screen sizes, and button layouts on exhibit. One amusing point? These samples included a plate of "АБВГ" (Cyrillic letters) instead of good old ABXY buttons. A sweet local touch! Early units run the various operating systems that Russian developers power: Alt OS, Aurora and Uncom OS. Although, Fplus envisages the hardware to run modern games, with special mention of the under wraps tech specs.

The project is currently at a very early stage, TRL 5, which means proof of concept under real-life simulated conditions. However, development is marathon, not magic. According to Fplus, this is going to take at least another five years and within that time, more and more components produced in Russia will be used - 20%-40%, possibly even a processor designed in Russia. Plans include getting a formal endorsement from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Fplus seems realistic about these challenges. They argue that the console's real success should come hand in hand with strong backing from the gaming community, support from gaming media, and partnerships with technology hubs like Skolkovo. The biggest hurdle, however, would be in the absence of a reasonably powerful ecosystem and homegrown content for educational games. Apart from this, skepticism from prospective partners and an already-congested market established with reputed foreign brands are additional challenges that await the company.

Force Handle 5

the Terrans Force Handle 5 device looks very much like one of the prototypes from Fplus on Chinese online markets. This device runs on AMD Ryzen 7840U and costs about $999. Apart from color and button inscriptions, the external design looks remarkably similar.

Time will tell if Fplus can succeed in realizing its idea of a Russian portable gaming console. The endeavor is quite ambitious, and the whole technical world will be watching it.
