Honor is getting set to show off its new foldable phone, and they've now locked in its launch date. Rather unexpectedly, the company has chosen to name the new model the Honor Magic V5, leaving out the “V4” and jumping from the Magic V3. A recent teaser gives a peek at the new phone, hinting that a long battery life may be a key sales point when it goes up against Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7.
While we wait for Samsung to show its Galaxy Z Fold 7 around mid-July, other big names in the foldable phone game, especially in China, are also making moves. Right after Vivo said they’ll put out the X Fold 5, Honor shared on June 18, 2025, that the Magic V5 will come out in China on July 2, 2025. We might also see it go worldwide at the IFA 2025 in Berlin this September.
Honor hasn’t spilled much about the Magic V5’s looks or specs yet. But signs from certifications and leaks hint that its battery life could be its big draw. Rumors say Honor is adding a huge 6,000 mAh battery to the thin Magic V5, a step up from the 5,150 mAh in the Magic V3. We might even see faster charging, possibly up to 80 watts.
It's still not clear if the Magic V5 will be slimmer than before or if it will have better cameras. Details on its processor are also few. Looking at the competition, the upcoming Vivo X Fold 5 is set to keep using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, not the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, but it will have other new features.
At the same time, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, set for a mid-July reveal, looks to be making larger leaps than Samsung’s past foldables. Samsung aims to slim down their device, likely trying hard to match their Chinese rivals.
