Having recently entered the market in China, Lenovo is promising a new G9 controller that they say would scratch beyond the surface of an accessory and reform the very way one plays on his or her tablet.
Manoeuvred into a price point of approximately $55 (CNY 399), the G9 controller aims to deliver an A-class feel under competitive gaming. The thing is that Hall Effect technology is employed for the sticks and triggers. So why is that special. Well, Hall Effect sticks are known for durability and resist that dreaded "stick drift" that plagues many a standard controller. As for Hall Effect triggers, they can offer a crisper and more direct feel, especially important for those case-interrupting moments.
Lenovo did not end there. They also have four programmable macro switches on the rear side of the controller. These are programmable buttons for specific in-game actions, giving you an edge, perhaps, during competitive play. It's all about having that one command at your fingertip.
Long playing hours with the tablet would mean the heating effect. Anticipating that, ventilation holes would keep the Y700 cool when it gets hot inside a game. For connections, it simply plugs into the USB-C port of the tablet. According to Lenovo, lag is at its minimal with this kind of direct connection, which is exactly what you want for seamless non-disruptive session-winners.
Alongside the G9, Lenovo also teased a G9 Pro controller. While the standard G9 sounds pretty great in itself, the Pro will surpass it by quite a margin, including more powerful vibration motors for better feedback and optical ABXY buttons. For the moment, we can only hold for its availability in the foreseeable future, but definitely with much enthusiasm from anyone desiring the ultimate in tablet gaming.
Thus, if you own the new Lenovo Y700 gaming tablet, the G9 controller looks like a very tempting upgrade to turn it into a highly capable gaming machine.
