Bungie has said that their new game, Marathon, will not come out on its first set time of September 23, 2025. For now, they have not set a new date. They plan to give an update on how the game is doing and will tell us a new time to expect it this fall.
This info came from a blog post by the Marathon team. This is the big news they have given since they talked about a problem where an old artist on the team used another artist's work without saying so.
In their post, Bungie thanked players for their thoughts on the game's first show and test play. "With every talk and each word you share... we hear you loud and clear," they wrote. "We have taken this in, and we know we need more time to make Marathon the game you really want." This is why they pushed back the September start.
The team will use the extra time to make sure Marathon is a top, big-deal game. They have set up several main goals:
- Making the Survival Part Better: This means making AI fights more fun and adding better loot and new happenings to the game.
- Boosting Combat Strategy: They want to make fights more hard and make players think more.
- Adding More to the Marathon World: Bungie wants to better the looks, add more story parts and find ways to bring out a darker mood like in the first Marathon games.
- Better Solo and Duo Play: They aim to improve the game for one or two players.
- Putting in Proximity Chat: They plan to add this feature too.
"We will talk to you again later this Fall when we can show the steps we've taken and tell you the new game date," ended Bungie, thanking players for their wait and love.
This hold-up might not stun those who have been watching the game's build, with ideas about a stopped ad plan and big changes needed after the problem with the art.
