NVIDIA has now put out its new GeForce RTX 5050 GPU for laptops. They have ended the no-sell rule in China. Laptop makers can start to sell gear with this new RTX 50 series graphics card.

Here is what the GeForce RTX 5050 for laptops offers, based on the GB207 bit:

  • Cores: 2560
  • VRAM: 8 GB GDDR7
  • Memory Lane: 128-bit
  • Memory Flow: Likely 384 GB/s (close to the RTX 5060 for phones)
  • Power Use: 115W

The core count is the same as the one they think will be on desktops, showing similar power if other bits match. This laptop version uses GDDR7 memory, and the desktop version will likely do the same.

Laptop brands like Mechrevo, with its Kuangshi X, and ASUS, with the TianXuan 6 model, are some of the first to sell laptops with the RTX 5050. The ASUS TianXuan 6, with an Intel Core i7 14650HX chip, starts at about 6559 Yuan (near US$913). These laptops are said to be $30-$40 cheaper than the RTX 5060 models.

First tests show the GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU doing well over the old RTX 4050:

  • Time Spy: Scores near 10269 points, about 9% higher than the RTX 4050. It is 18% slower than the RTX 5060 laptop GPU in this check.
  • Firestrike Extreme: About 19% slower than the RTX 5060.
  • Port Royal (Ray Tracing): Shows a big 27% power jump over the RTX 4050, though it is 18% slower than the RTX 5060.

These numbers show a good jump up, mainly in ray tracing.
