Smartwatches have undergone some advancement. However, Samsung is right now in the works with a concept that could fundamentally change how we wear tech for the better. A recently filed patent application reveals a really out-there idea: a smartwatch in which the display itself wraps fully around the wrist, becoming, effectively, a strap
Now, this isnt the very first time weve heard such a concept. Back in 2013, even before the Apple Watch was a thing, Apple had a patent of similar workings. However, back then, the technology was just not ready to give birth to such a thing. Fast forward to today, and Samsung seems to be rather confident about its prospects.
Samsung believes this futuristic design could nip some annoying issues with smartwatches in the bud and allow for different possibilities:
- No More Awkward Wrist Twisting: With a screen that is always visible, people would not have to turn their wrists to just look at information.
- More Screen Estate: Since the display would be curved, it could actually be taller than todays flat displays, giving more room for apps and notifications.
- Cleverly Distinction Zones For Information: The screen could be bent or folded into sections, with each showing specific information. Think of it as having mini-displays into one.
Samsung even gave a few examples of how these "adaptive sections" could work. Imagine the outward-facing section of the screen showing something public, like a bus ticket for the conductor to scan while the part of the screen that faces you plays a YouTube video or shows private messages. Quite cool huh
Thats the question isnt it While the patent implies that Samsung is seriously considering that idea, for now, it stays a concept. There is no word whether that forward-thinking wrist-worn display will ever get into selling line. But it surely provides a prospective look at what the future of smartwatches might hold.
