The big company from Taiwan, TSMC, looks set to grow its lead in the chip market. Reports now say its top-notch 2nm making process is going very well.
For a long time, TSMC has been a top player in making chips, doing very well with its 5nm and 3nm techs. Their win comes from starting new ways to make things and putting a lot of money into finding out new things, holding off rivals like Samsung and Intel Foundry. Now, news from the Taiwan Economic Daily shows that TSMC's 2nm process is good enough for big, steady making, putting them way ahead of others.
People say TSMC's 2nm rates are now about 60%. This rate is much better than rivals, with Samsung said to be at about 40% for their same tech. This good start has made TSMC's 2nm option very popular, with big tech names like NVIDIA, Apple, and AMD said to have booked space for making things. AMD has even said openly that its next big server chips will be made with TSMC's 2nm tech, showing a big early use.
While Samsung was quick to use the GAA transistor design, a main tech for high-tech nodes, they haven't got the same hold on the market as TSMC. But, Samsung is also said to be doing better with its own 2nm work, with better rates. There's a chance for Samsung to be a backup maker in the 2nm time, but much hangs on who can first get to steady, big making.
Right now, TSMC seems to have a clear lead. Given how their rates are going, their top spot in making advanced chips looks set to stay.
