AMD's 32 GB Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPU Shows Up Online with Good Price

The first online shop shows for AMD's Radeon AI PRO R9700 workstation GPU are out, showing a price under $1300 US. This sets the 32 GB card in a top spot, costing much less than other low-end pro GPUs from NVIDIA.

Main Bits and AI Aim

Told at Computex, the Radeon AI PRO R9700 is made for AI work. It uses the full Navi 48 GPU, the same found in the Radeon RX 9070 XT, but with one big boost:

  • 32 GB GDDR6 Memory: This big VRAM is key for dealing with big Language Models (LLMs), which need 16-28 GB of memory to work well.

Price Shows and Who It Beats

Seller Tech-America has put ASRock and Sapphire types of the R9700 between $1244 and $1277 US. This hints at a likely market price of about $1200-$1250 US. This pricing is sharp when put next to others:

  • AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700: Has 32 GB GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus for near $1250 US.
  • NVIDIA RTX PRO 4000 "Blackwell": Has 24 GB GDDR7 memory on a shorter 192-bit bus for $2499 US.
  • NVIDIA RTX PRO 4500 "Blackwell": NVIDIA's 32 GB type, costs $3799 US.

For AI jobs where VRAM size is more key than memory speed, the R9700 gives more memory than NVIDIA's basic pro card for about half the cost.

Market Look

Though NVIDIA's Blackwell build may lead in raw power, AMD's deal with the R9700 is strong. The mix of lots of VRAM and a good price, helped by a better ROCm software base, gives AMD a real shot to win part of the workstation AI market.

With the AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700 set to launch this month, the workstation area is ready for more fight. The field also waits for Intel's Arc PRO B-series GPUs, set to challenge in the price-for-power area.
