Report Uncovers Major Development Issues for Battlefield 6
After the mixed feelings on Battlefield 2042, the next game, Battlefield 6, aims to win back fans. Yet, a fresh report from Ars Technica, using words from some past and current game makers, says the work faces big problems in making and running it.
Campaign Development Faces Significant Roadblocks
The story part of the game is said to be the hardest to make. Main problems include:
- Many restarts The story, meant to last 6 hours, got restarted many times.
- Team changes Work on the story moved from Ridgeline to work by DICE, Criterion, and Motive together.
- Not on time As of early 2025, the story part wasn't in its alpha stage yet.
Internal Conflicts and Leadership Challenges
The report also talks about fights within the team. EA's bosses in the US are more into money goals than making a good game, which changes things from how DICE in Europe used to have more free play in making games. This push to speed up work is said to give the team not enough time to bring all their ideas to life.
EA's High Expectations Clash with Developer Doubts
Even with these troubles, EA expects a lot from Battlefield 6. They plan to pull in over 100 million players, which is way more than the 30 million from Battlefield 1 or 22 million from Battlefield 2042. They have spent over $400 million aiming for this.
But, the makers doubt this goal, feeling the game won't reach such high marks with how things are going now.
Multiplayer Development Shows More Promise
The game's multiplayer bit seems to be doing better. Tests are already happening, letting some players try it out. Known bits for multiplayer are:
- Going back to a class-based set-up.
- A new free-to-play mode that adds to the battle royale, like Warzone.
The set date to put out Battlefield 6 is still not known as it deals with these big making troubles.
